Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why should I choose Invictus for my child ?
The choice of a school is a highly personal one, and every child is different. At Invictus we provide a nurturing environment together with a meaningful international education, through the two widely spoken languages of English and Mandarin. Invictus provides an accessible ‘through train’ education, currently for kindergarten and primary (extending to secondary level on government approval), where each and every child is cared for as an individual. -
What curriculum is taught at Invictus?
As an authorised school, Invictus uses the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) and International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Through the use of globally themed units, IEYC/IPC promotes the learning of skills and knowledge in an international context. Inquiry-based approaches ensure learning is personal and authentic. At Invictus, the IEYC/IPC is supported by carefully adapted curricula for English, Mathematics, and Chinese. -
What is the language of instruction at Invictus?
Invictus is a bilingual school, using an immersion approach to deliver lessons in either English or Mandarin. Up to Year 3, each language is used for about 50% of the time within a normal week. From Year 4 onwards, the proportion of English moves up to approximately 70%. -
How is Chinese taught at Invictus?
Chinese is taught and used throughout Invictus in all areas of learning and school life. Traditional characters are used in the teaching of reading and writing. -
What’s the difference between the IPC and IB primary programmes?
The two programmes have many similarities through their inquiry-based approaches to learning, their strong emphasis on a person’s learning skills, and their international perspective. Both programmes provide a strong foundation for the IGCSE curricula which will be offered in Invictus School’s secondary section in Chai Wan (subject to government approval). -
What maths programme is taught at Invictus?
In collaboration with its sister school in Singapore, Invictus follows the Singapore Mathematics programme. This is a well-stepped but rigorous model, adjusted to fit the needs of Invictus’ wider curriculum in Hong Kong. -
Does Invictus offer after school activities?
A range of extra-curricular activities (ECAs) is part of the holistic offering at Invictus. Some are offered by our own staff, whilst others are delivered by suitable external organisations. The termly ECA programme includes academic, sporting, and arts-based options. -
How big are classes at Invictus?
There is a maximum of 12 students per class in kindergarten and the teacher-student ratio is 1:12. There is a maximum of 24 students per class in primary, but teaching assistants and support staff through the school lead to a lower child:adult ratio. -
Is there an entry assessment for Invictus School?
Yes there is, but it is not a formal test. Our assessment is an encouraging one designed to give children an opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities in all academic areas, to let us see if they will be able to access our curriculum successfully. A high level of proficiency in both English and Mandarin is not necessarily required. The assessment also identifies any additional learning needs, including social or behavioural, which may require support. -
What if my child does not perform well on the entry assessment?
Our assessment, conducted by teachers in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, is designed to identify where your child is at in his/her learning. If we feel that considerable extra support will be required to access our curriculum, we may discuss the nature of such support as an additional cost. -
What are the fees at Invictus, and is there a debenture?
There are currently no debentures or entrance fees. The annual school fees are $100 000 paid over ten months. -
